Toys are favored by all kids but kids are definitely appealed to specific things when it comes to toys and is why many toys have made huge changes of presentation of certain toys. The toy that stuck out the most to me is Dora The Explorer. Dora was created by the animators of Nickelodeon and was supposed to be the alternative to the barbie image of girlhood. Dora was unique to most toys because she was represented as a kid and most toys weren't such as the barbie and bratz dolls which focused more on beautification. Dora was a toy meant to want to explore and go on adventures. Later on Dora would be altered and changed to a more adult figure tall and skinny and her clothes changed and they got rid of her backpack and map and replaced it with a tutu and skirt. The company clearly thought this new beauty look was working and started expanding to selling beauty products like make up. The company made this change believing that girls should start showing a more feminine side at such a young age. So changing these toys make kids want to change because they look up to these toys as role models.
I think you did a good job explaining why she was created in the first place and how she changed over time. Nice way of putting how it effects the kids that watch it.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great post, i agree with you on how toys have changed over these past few years. How dora use to be unique and her own person and now she is just like every other toy. I can tell you put effort into this post. I felt acknowledged on toys as i was reading this blog post. Great job!
